Available nursing student programs

Associate degree nursing

A Registered Nurse (RN) is a vital member of the healthcare team. Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) programs prepare students to function with judgment and technical competence in providing care for patients.

ADN programs provide a balance between knowledge and technical skills that are enhanced with hands-on clinical experiences in area healthcare organizations.

Please email studentprograms-mfld@sanfordhealth.org if you have questions.

Bachelors degree nursing

University prepared registered nurses (RNs) are in a profession that combines physical science, social science, nursing theory and technology in the care of others.

Registered nurses perform numerous duties including observing and assessing patients’ health, and providing for a patient’s physical, mental, and emotional needs. They are educated to perform a variety of clinical tasks, develop and carry out a patient plan of care, and educating patients on getting and staying healthy.

Bachelor degree nurses can specialize in many areas of practice which include hospital, home, academic, government, business, industry, medical service, and the community at large.

Nurse midwife

Nursing is a profession that combines physical science, social science, nursing theory and technology in the care of others.

Nurse Midwives are nurses who specialize in their area of practice through advance degree preparation. Nurse Midwives deliver babies and give medical care and treatment to pregnant mothers under supervision of an obstetrician.

Nurse practitioner

Nurse practitioners (NPs) are advanced degree nurses who have greater autonomy, and in many states, are able to practice independently and prescribe medications.

Similar in nature to physician assistants, nurse practitioners take a patient load themselves, enabling primary care physicians to provide care to more complex cases.

They follow a patient's progress — taking the medical history, conducting physical exams, making diagnoses, and implementing treatment plans. NPs also have the ability to order and interpret lab tests and x-rays. They can specialize in many areas including Adult health, Acute care, Geriatrics, Family health, Pediatrics and Women's health.

Due to the large number of NP student applications we receive, we must receive your application four months prior to your clinical start date.
