Understand your breast cancer risk
Many people are unsure about their risk of developing breast cancer. Some worry they are at high risk when they are not. Others may not realize they could benefit from additional screening or prevention options.
Marshfield Clinic’s high risk breast service helps you understand your individual risk and make informed decisions about your breast health.

What is high risk breast service
The high risk breast service is designed for individuals who may have an increased risk for breast cancer based on personal or family history, genetics or other factors. Our team will help you understand your personal breast cancer risk and explore early detection and prevention options so you can choose what is right for you and your family.
You may benefit from the high risk breast service if you:
- Have a family history of breast or related cancers
- Have concerns about inherited cancer risk
- Have questions after prior screening or testing
- Want to better understand prevention and early detection options
- You do not need to have cancer to use this service.
Understanding genetic testing
Genetic testing can help identify inherited risks for breast cancer, but it is not right for everyone.
The high risk breast service helps you understand:
- When genetic testing may be helpful
- What genetic testing can and cannot tell you
- How results may affect screening or prevention decisions
If appropriate, we will coordinate a referral to medical genetics services for further counseling and testing.
