Become a hospice volunteer
Dickinson Home Health and Hospice is currently seeking volunteers to become part of our hospice team. Whether spending time with patients, helping in the office or providing support to bereaved families, volunteers are an essential part of our team.

Position summary
Based on their training and experience, volunteers provide patient care and support services in accordance with organizational policies.
Essential functions and responsibilities
- Serves as an integral member of the interdisciplinary team across care settings, including home care, respite, inpatient, bereavement and administrative office duties
- Participates in hospital orientation and hospice-specific training
- Supports patients and their families or caregivers under the guidance of the volunteer coordinator and case manager, or as part of the administrative team
- Acts as a substitute family member or caregiver in the home, performing tasks for which the volunteer is trained and has agreed to perform, such as light homemaking, running errands or providing respite care
- Documents activities as instructed while maintaining confidentiality
- Meets all health requirements set by the organization
- Provides regular availability to meet patient and family or caregiver needs
- Participates in volunteer support groups and in-service education
- Maintains open communication and reports regularly to the volunteer coordinator
- Performs other duties as assigned by the volunteer coordinator
- Participates in quality assessment and performance improvement (QAPI) teams and activities
- Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings as appropriate
Position qualifications
- Demonstrates maturity, supports the hospice philosophy, is comfortable with personal spirituality and is willing to serve others in a volunteer capacity
- Successfully completes the hospice volunteer orientation and training program
- Previous volunteer experience is preferred
- Demonstrates the ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team
- For home visits, maintains a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable, insured vehicle that meets state and organizational requirements
