Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a highly-contagious virus that causes inflammation in the lower airways. While most people recover in a few weeks, RSV can be serious. Infants and older adults are most likely to develop severe RSV symptoms that may require hospitalization.

RSV immunizations are available for:

  • People ages 75 and older
  • People ages 60-74 at an increased risk of severe RSV
  • People 32-36 weeks pregnant, from September through January (Provides protection to infants born when RSV incidence is highest)
  • Newborns and high-risk infants less than 19 months of age, from October through March
