Success is possible with healthy living education and counseling. Our team of providers, registered dietitians and specially trained health educators will help you every step of the way.

Diabetes prevention program

A yearlong lifestyle change program for people at risk for developing Type 2 diabetes. This program is based on research funded by the National Institutes of Health. Program features weekly virtual group meetings to establish personal goals with a lifestyle coach.

Diabetes self-management education and support

A program that provides you with information, tools and support to manage your diabetes. You will work together with a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) to identify your needs and develop an individualized plan of care. The program focuses on personal health habits and ways to prevent, recognize and treat long-term complications. Virtual (telehealth) and in-person visits are available.

DIET FREE (also available for pediatric patients)

Adopting Zonya's eight DIET FREE habits – one at a time – will change your life.

DIET FREE is a deprivation-free nutrition and exercise program open to all patients and employees of Marshfield Clinic Health System. Children ages 10-18 are welcome to participate as long as they attend along with their parents/legal guardians. It's a fantastic family education opportunity!

Step 1: Register for an informational session

Informational sessions are 20 minutes and held every other Wednesday via phone/Microsoft Teams.  Please click on the link below to sign up for a session. During this informational session, you will learn about the program and how to register for a 10 week class. If you are unable to attend a session, please skip to step 3 to order the participant kit and complete the program on your own.

Step 2: Register for a virtual DIET FREE class or choose to participate self-guided

The 10 week session will take place via Microsoft Teams/phone. If you want to complete the program following the self-paced, skip to step 3.

2026 Virtual Classes via Teams: Gain the support and enthusiasm of others during a virtual class facilitated by a Health Educator.

Step 3: Order your DIET FREE participant kit

After your informational session, you will receive an email with instructions for how to order your participant kit materials. The kit will be mailed directly to your home address. The cost is $99 plus shipping ($5.95 for economy or $10.95 for priority). If you are unable to attend an informational session, please email mchswellness@marshfieldclinic.org to get the instructions for how to order your kit.

Weight management program

A weight management program for adults that is available in the Eau Claire and Rice Lake region. Program features a team to work with you to create your personal nutrition and weight loss plan. The team includes a registered dietitian, a fitness specialist and a provider who specializes in weight loss. Program includes appointments and long-term support focused on:

  • Mindful eating and healthy food choices that meet your nutrition needs
  • How to exercise safely based on your ability
  • A plan you can follow for lifelong health

Bariatric surgery

Our team works together to ensure you receive the education and support to achieve and sustain your weight loss goals. Bariatric surgery is a proven effective tool to help you lose a large amount of weight.

Medicare intensive behavior therapy for weight management

Allows Medicare recipients to lose weight by providing frequent behavioral counseling and therapy on nutrition and exercise. With a referral from your primary care provider, you meet with a registered dietitian nutritionist once weekly for four weeks. You then have two visits per month for the next five months. At the end of six months, if you have lost three kilograms - just over six and a half pounds, you can continue with this service for up to one year.

Nutrition services

Changing your eating habits and relationship with food can be difficult. Our nutrition services team provides long-term support and follow-up to help you work through these changes. You can work together with a registered dietitian nutritionist to meet your weight loss and maintenance goals.

Physical therapy (also available for pediatric patients)

You work with a physical therapist to create a home exercise program to fit your needs and goals. Keep up your progress at a local YMCA or other fitness center by asking about discounted membership.

Psychology of weight management

This personalized program provides the support you need to meet your weight loss goals. Program features education on how the body stores fat and how to use stored body fat to lose weight, how changing your thoughts, changes your habits and how changing your habits related to eating makes it possible to lose weight and keep it off.

Security Health Plan weight loss program (Security Health Plan members only)

A phone health coaching program for Security Health Plan members interested in weight loss who are identified as high risk by Security claims reports or complete a WebMD health assessment that shows a body-mass index of 35 or higher. Security members can participate by contacting SHP about participating in the program or being referred by a SHP care manager.
