The ability to support individuals during their most vulnerable moments inspires Samantha Marquez in her work as a physician assistant.

“Medicine offers a unique opportunity to serve as a healer, educator and advocate for underserved communities, allowing me to make a tangible, positive impact on people's lives," she said. “It is not just a career, but a commitment to lifelong learning, problem-solving and building meaningful, trusting relationships with patients."

Samantha earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the College of St. Mary in Omaha, Nebraska and her Master of Physician Assistant Studies degree from A.T. Stills University in Mesa, Arizona.

“I chose to work at Marshfield Clinic because of its longstanding reputation for excellence in patient-centered care and commitment to rural communities," she said.

She performs and assists with surgeries involving the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine and treats a range of neurological and spine-related conditions. These include back pain and back injuries, herniated spinal discs, strokes and brain conditions such as tumors, hemorrhages and traumatic injuries. She also supports patients with shunt placement needs and provides continuity of care through hospital rounding, outpatient follow-ups and post-operative care.

Samantha's philosophy of medicine centers on treating the person, not just the diagnosis, by fostering a partnership based on empathy, respect and shared decision-making.

“I believe in patient-centric care and recognize that a patient's unique lifestyle, values and emotions are essential parts of their health. My approach involves active listening and ensuring patients feel heard and understood," she said.

She also strives to empower patients to take an active role in their health journey.

“Ultimately, I aim to provide the same care I would want for my own loved ones – care that is dignified, holistic and supportive," Samantha said.
