Sarah Knutson, N.P., grew up wanting to be a teacher.
“Along my journey, I started in the medical field as a nursing assistant and marveled at how important education was in taking care of others," she said. “Now, I teach in every patient encounter to empower others to optimize their health."
She is a dual board-certified family nurse practitioner and received her Master of Science in nursing degree from Concordia University in Wisconsin.
“I chose family medicine because I saw the tremendous impact nurse practitioners make in small, rural communities and in improving the health outcomes for patients across their lifespan," she said.
She provides preventive care services such as physicals, well-child checks and sports physicals, as well as chronic disease management for conditions like diabetes, heart disease, asthma and arthritis. She also treats illnesses and minor injuries and has expertise in procedures including Nexplanon placements, IUD removals, suturing minor lacerations, joint injections and skin procedures such as biopsies, freezing, incisions and drainage.
“I love to spend time educating patients about illness prevention," she said. “When patients are equipped with the knowledge to improve their health outcomes, they become empowered in their own care."
She enjoys caring for patients throughout their lives.
“Seeing patients of all ages keeps my job exciting. I love primary care because I get to build relationships with my patients throughout their life," she said.
Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She is married and they have two 'fur babies.' Her hobbies include working on their hobby farm, hunting, fishing, reading, camping, hiking with their dogs, seeing live music and gardening. She also is an amateur beekeeper.
