“I want to make sure everyone is on the same page, and we can decide as a team what the goals are."
Gabe Buechel entered health care because he had found the human body to be fascinating throughout his education.
“Nursing is an incredibly diverse field, but it always keeps caring at its core, no matter if I'm in the hospital at a patient's bedside or in the clinic," he said.
He fell in love with oncology during his final semester of school while earning his nurse practitioner degree.
“It's a unique field in that cancer can affect all body systems. We get to know our patients on a much deeper level than in any other clinical area," he said.
Buechel received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and his Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
He helps provide care for patients with cancer or blood disorders. To Buechel, communication and teamwork are important aspects of patient care.
“I want to make sure everyone is on the same page, and we can decide as a team what the goals are and what the plan of care will be," he said.
He shares the most rewarding part of his practice is guiding patients and their loved ones through the different stages of their illness or disease process with support and empowering them with knowledge.
“I most enjoy teaching people about their illness or disease, how we monitor it and the different ways in which we manage it," he said.
Outside of health care, he enjoys biking, hiking, skiing and anything outdoors.
