New Marshfield Clinic Health System Stevens Point hospital reaches construction milestone

new hospital construction

May 13, 2021

STEVENS POINT – The final steel beam was placed today at Marshfield Clinic Health System's new hospital in Stevens Point as construction of the hospital moves to its next phase.

A crane operator placed the steel beam during a small, socially distant ceremony today with construction, and Health System staff and leaders. The new hospital, attached to its existing clinic at 4100 State Highway 66 is expected to open for patient care in spring 2022 and be named the Marshfield Medical Center-Stevens Point.

"Today's milestone reaffirms a commitment to the Stevens Point community that spans nearly three decades and is poised to bring a broader array of medical and surgical services," said Ryan Neville, chief administrative officer for Marshfield Medical Center-Stevens Point. "The addition of a hospital to an already comprehensive cancer center and full-range of primary and specialty care services will help us deliver on our promise of providing excellent care close to home for our patients."

In addition to offering a full spectrum of cancer care, the Health System's Stevens Point Center offers 29 specialty services, adult and pediatric primary care, physical and occupational therapy, urgent care, lab, imaging and optical. The hospital expansion will add 12 inpatient rooms, a surgical suite with operating and procedural rooms, combined emergency/urgent care department and more.

Marshfield Clinic has continually expanded its services in the Stevens Point community.  In 2013, Marshfield Clinic opened its doors to the new Stevens Point Center. In 2017, the cancer center was built to provide oncology/hematology and radiation oncology services, as well as access to dozens of cancer-related clinical trials and services. In 2019, urgent care service debuted at Stevens Point Center allowing people access to more immediate health care.

The Health System and University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point have a collaborative partnership to expand educational programs to develop the future healthcare workforce, and the Health System is the exclusive sports medicine partner to care for the school's 500-plus athletes and 20 sports teams.

Miron Construction is the project's general contractor and HGA served as the architect on the project.

"We're proud to partner with the Marshfield Clinic Health System to celebrate this important milestone as the hospital moves toward completion," the Miron Project Team said. "The placement of the final beam is always a rewarding time to acknowledge all of the hard work, as well as recognize the project team's commitment to safety on the site. We look forward to the next milestone when we cut the ribbon to open this state-of-the-art facility."

"We value our continued partnership with Marshfield Clinic Health System, and we've greatly appreciated the opportunity to collaborate with MCHS on the design of the Stevens Point facility," said Amy Douma, HGA vice president and design principal. "Today's construction milestone is the result of hard work and dedication on the part of many individuals, and we are very proud to be part of this project team. We are excited to see the hospital continue to take shape, and we look forward to the day that it can support exceptional care for the Stevens Point community."
