Celebrating excellence in maternity care: Marshfield Medical Centers earn recognition for women’s health services

June 5, 2025

Marshfield Medical Centers in Beaver Dam, Eau Claire, Marshfield, Minocqua, Rice Lake and Weston have been recognized as “Birthing-Friendly" hospitals by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). This prestigious designation reflects our unwavering commitment to providing safe, high-quality maternity care across Marshfield Clinic.

The “Birthing-Friendly" designation is part of CMS's broader Maternity Care Action Plan, which aims to improve maternal health outcomes nationwide. Hospitals that receive this recognition must participate in a statewide or national perinatal quality improvement collaborative and implement evidence-based practices that enhance maternal safety.

“I'm so proud of the work our nurses do in the Family Birth Center every day, and this shows their continued commitment to quality and excellence," said Wendy Kremnitzer, nurse manager at Marshfield Medical Center-Weston.

In addition to the CMS designation, Marshfield Medical Centers in Eau Claire and Marshfield earned accolades for maternity care excellence. Each location received High Performing in Maternity Care (Uncomplicated Pregnancy) by U.S. News & World Report, placing them among the top maternity care providers in the nation. This recognition is based on outcomes such as low C-section rates, strong breastfeeding support, and access to midwife-led care.

Eau Claire's team also earned Advanced Certification in Perinatal Care from The Joint Commission, recognizing integrated, evidence-based care for both uncomplicated and high-risk pregnancies.

“Our team is deeply honored to receive these recognitions," said Gina Leath, Chief Nursing Officer for the West market. “They reflect our unwavering dedication to providing safe, compassionate, and personalized care for every mother and baby who walks through our doors."

These recognitions are a testament to the dedication and excellence of our women's health teams across all locations. Congratulations to everyone involved in making our hospitals a trusted destination for maternity care.
