MARSHFIELD – Krista Hoglund, A.S.A., MAAA, has been named as Security Health Plan's next chief executive officer. Hoglund, a native of Exeland, Wis., has been interim CEO for Security Health Plan since August 1. She was previously chief actuary and financial officer for Security Health Plan, and spent 13 years in progressively advancing roles within Security Health Plan's executive leadership, actuarial and business intelligence areas.
“Krista is superbly qualified for this position. I have been truly impressed by her leadership prowess over the past few months as interim CEO," said Marshfield Clinic Health System CEO Dr. Susan Turney. “She maintained Security Health Plan as a vital and vibrant component of our Health System, made thoughtful executive decisions, built a strong rapport with Health Plan leaders and employees, and represented the Health Plan in discussions with state and national leaders. As interim CEO, she set the stage for what she will be able to accomplish as CEO."
Hoglund has long been a champion of Security Health Plan's strategic imperative calling for stewardship of financial and human resources. She is highly focused on reducing the total cost of care for Security Health Plan customers, and across the health insurance and health care industry. As chief actuary and financial officer, Hoglund was a key leader in cost reduction efforts at Marshfield Clinic Health System through which Security Health Plan achieved more than $80 million in year-over-year savings. She has shaped policy, planning and analysis guiding the Health Plan's decisions that affect its financial performance, and has worked closely with the financial leadership team at Marshfield Clinic Health System to ensure financial vitality for both organizations.
“I am excited to have the opportunity to lead such an amazing organization," Hoglund said. “My vision for the future includes a heavy focus on health care affordability, driving for innovation, improving the health of rural populations, and making sure we're considered a top-choice workplace for employees. I am privileged to be working with a fantastic group of employees and leaders who are ready to tackle tough problems. I am eager to continue the work we've already started, and see where we can go from here."
Hoglund holds a bachelor's degree in applied mathematics from University of Wisconsin-Stout and is working toward a master's degree in business administration. In addition she is a current participant in the Carol Emmott Foundation Fellowship Program, and has completed several specialized leadership training programs. Those experiences have shaped the foundation of Hoglund's leadership philosophy. She is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries, and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
