Conditions we treat

Our audiology team diagnoses and manages a wide range of hearing and balance conditions for patients of all ages. Common conditions include:

Hearing loss

  • Conductive hearing loss
Caused by blockages or issues in the outer or middle ear, such as earwax buildup, infections, fluid, or otosclerosis. Often treatable with medical care or surgery in coordination with ENT specialists.
  • Sensorineural hearing loss
The most common type, often due to aging, noise exposure, genetics, medications, or nerve damage. Typically managed with hearing aids or assistive devices; severe cases may require cochlear implant evaluation.
  • Mixed hearing loss
A combination of conductive and sensorineural factors requiring a tailored treatment plan.

Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
Persistent ringing or buzzing sounds that may accompany hearing loss. We provide evaluation and management strategies to reduce its impact.

Balance and dizziness disorders
Conditions such as vestibular dysfunction or inner ear issues can cause dizziness or unsteadiness. Tests like electronystagmography (ENG) help identify the source.

Pediatric hearing concerns
Speech delays, inattentiveness, or difficulty responding to sounds may indicate hearing problems in children. Our pediatric audiologists use age appropriate methods, from behavioral observation (birth-7 months) to conditioned play (2-5 years), and objective measures (OAE, ABR, steady-state) to accurately evaluate your child.

Other specialized conditions

  • Auditory nerve disorders
  • Cochlear hydrops (balance problems)
  • Acoustic reflex abnormalities
  • Candidates for cochlear implants

Frequently asked questions

How long will my appointment take?

Most evaluations take 15 to 60 minutes, depending on the tests needed.

Will hearing aids restore my hearing to “normal”?

Hearing aids improve clarity and reduce listening effort but don’t fully restore normal hearing. Benefits vary by person; a trial period helps confirm your fit.

Which hearing aid is right for me?

Your audiologist will recommend style, brand and features based on your hearing loss, lifestyle and preferences. They will also let you know whether you need one or two devices.

Do you work with ENT if I need medical treatment?

Yes. We coordinate closely with ENT and other physicians when a medical issue may be contributing to hearing loss.
