Marshfield, Weston, Eau Claire hospitals recognized for maternity care access

Dec. 7, 2023

U.S. News & World Report recognized Marshfield Clinic Health System hospitals in Marshfield, Eau Claire and Weston on its list of “High Performing Hospitals" for maternity care access.

The media company known for its ranking, including a wide range of health care services, named 311 hospitals to the maternity care list of which 17 were from Wisconsin.

Kendal Stockel, nurse manager at Marshfield Medical Center-Eau Claire Birth Center and Respiratory Therapy, said it is a high achievement to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report; a distinction hospitals across the country strive for.

“Our staff and providers work so hard every day to ensure our patients are receiving quality care while getting the best experience possible and it shows," Stockel said. “Our patients constantly tell us this is the best hospital they have delivered at and rave about how wonderful our team is. I couldn't be more proud of my team and providers. In my opinion, we have the best team around."

To compile its Best Hospitals for Maternity Care (Uncomplicated Pregnancy) list, U.S. News examined survey data voluntarily submitted by hospitals from across the nation that provide labor and delivery services and submitted detailed data to the publication; 680 hospitals, an all-time high, participated in this year's U.S. News survey. The publication assessed the hospitals' performance based on measures of quality, such as C-section rates in lower-risk pregnancies, newborn complication rates, exclusive breast milk feeding rates, early elective delivery rates, birthing-friendly practices and transparency on racial/ethnic disparities, among other measures.

“We are very proud of our MMC-Marshfield Birth Center and lactation teams," said Lori Rowe, Nurse Manager at Marshfield's Birth Center. “They work diligently to provide the highest level of care possible to our mothers and newborns, incorporating the most up to date best practice models. They are experts at what they do, and their dedication and passion is evident. We see this through positive patient feedback daily."

Marshfield OBGYN Alison Bauer, M.D., added, “Our team is honored to be recognized for our continued efforts to provide the highest quality, evidence-based care to improve maternal health and birth outcomes in our community."

In an interview with WAOW Ch. 9, Thomas Doering, D.O., OB-GYN at MMC-Weston, said the obstetric staff have one goal in mind every day – be better for those they take care of.

“With any job whether it be in health care, whether it be in real estate, whether it be in anything, you always want to be surrounded by people who have similar goals as you, who have a similar work ethic as you and I think that's what we find in this one," Dr. Doering said.
