“The losses are painful still, but the saves are what keep bringing me back.”

Provider Bio down arrow

Dr. Steven Muhle, emergency medicine physician, provides care for patients with a variety of emergent medical needs and ailments.

This includes the use of lab tests and radiology scans, such as an X-ray, to help diagnose his patients. Even with those resources, Muhle believes it is important to rely on other resources as well.

“It is important to not let technology replace my training and cognitive abilities, but rather use technology to augment what I bring as a provider,” Muhle said. “I make sure to have a full history and provide an exam for every patient, and use that information to develop a working differential diagnosis.”

Even with this fact-paced and often complicated process, he is most passionate about getting to know his patients.

“Getting to know my patients can be difficult in a fast-paced emergency setting, but I meet a lot of interesting people. Their stories don't begin at the emergency department,” Muhle said. “I enjoy the intense environment, and the diversity of patient presentations.”

Muhle attended medical school at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee. He completed his residency in emergency medicine at Michigan State University-Kalamazoo Center for Medical Sciences. He is a board-certified emergency medicine physician.

Muhle is married and has three boys. In his spare time, he participates in power lifting and body building.
