Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Electrophysiologist, joined Marshfield Clinic Health System in 2014. Electrophysiologists specialize in the treatment of heart related issues like arrhythmias, which are abnormally slow or fast heart rhythms. Due to arrhythmias, people may experience dizziness, palpitations, chest pain or loss of consciousness. These conditions may lead to sudden cardiac death.
Dr. Kumar offers interventions like implantation of cardiac pacemakers or defibrillators, or ablation therapy for atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, as well as counseling, lifestyle modification and drug therapies. “I want to help my patients reach their health goals and enjoy an active lifestyle. I work to alleviate their anxiety and answer questions,” he said.
“I have been fortunate to visit many places in the United States. My best experiences have been in the Midwest where living and work are complemented by superb communities and natural beauty. Wausau enjoys the fortunate combination of large city amenities, easy access to the great Northwoods and small-town hospitality,” said Dr. Kumar.
In his free time, Dr. Kumar likes spending time with his wife and daughter reading, swimming, playing tennis, squash or racquetball and going for walks. “My daughter and I love painting and doing art projects together. I also enjoy books related to statistics, history, psychology and philosophy,” said Dr. Kumar.
Dr. Kumar received his medical degree from the Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU, in Varanasi, India. He then completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in New York, where he also completed his fellowships in cardiology and electrophysiology. He specializes in hypertension, nuclear cardiology, echocardiography, cardiac rhythm device management and advanced electrophysiology procedures.
