Dr. Kristal Ragbir-Toolsie, internal and geriatric medicine provider, specializes in coordinating care for patients in the acute care setting.
A desire to help ease the burden of chronic conditions in patients drew Kristal Ragbir-Toolsie, M.D., to medical school and to pursue a career as a hospitalist in internal and geriatric medicine.
Dr. Ragbir-Toolsie graduated from medical school in 2010, receiving her degree from the University of the West Indies - St. Augustine Campus in Trinidad and Tobago, a British Commonwealth island located off the coast of South America.
She completed her residency in 2014 at Bronxcare Health System - Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai in New York City. Dr. Ragbir-Toolsie later completed a fellowship in geriatric medicine in 2017 at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/ Northwell in New York.
As a health care provider, she saw a need to help geriatric patients and knew the hospitalist role would be a good fit.
“Geriatric patients are overrepresented in hospital admissions, as well as chronic disease clinics," she said.
As a hospitalist, Dr. Ragbir-Toolsie strives to provide the best care for her patients.
“A patient-centered approach is paramount, otherwise it is very difficult for the patients to navigate the health care system," she said. “A patient-centered approach gives the best care for the patient and on the patient having the best possible experience with the health care exposure."
She also works to maintain her patient's quality of life and enjoys helping them pursue the best life possible.
“I enjoy maintaining elderly patient's independence," she said. “Giving them community-dwelling potential is key to a better quality of life."
Outside of health care, Dr. Ragbir-Toolsie enjoys cooking, crafts, traveling and spending time with her family.
