“I am committed to an individualized, patient-centered approach to provide quality and compassionate care for the elderly."

Nurse Practitioner Kathryn Smrz brings a deep commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care for older adults. With more than 17 years at Marshfield Clinic, Kathy is proud to be part of an organization that values trust, teamwork and excellence.

Her passion for geriatrics was sparked during her clinical training, where she cared for patients in long-term care. Kathy then began her career as a nurse practitioner working over eight years in skilled nursing facilities.  She uses an individualized approach with her patients to provide disease-specific information along with strategies to enhance patient's activities of daily living.

“I have had family members suffer with dementia and personally understand the challenges it takes to be a caregiver and provide your loved one with resources and support to keep them safe while maintaining the dignity and quality of life they deserve," she said.

In Internal Medicine, Kathy focuses on common health concerns affecting older adults such as weight loss, urinary incontinence, sleep disorders, falls, sensory deficits and cognitive impairment. She emphasizes personalized care by identifying what matters most to each patient.

Kathy can perform early cognitive screening to support timely interventions and improve quality of life, along with medication reviews to reduce adverse effects and prevent complications like confusion and falls.

“I always treat my patients as an individual with shared decision-making," she said. “I ensure they receive the quality and respect they deserve."

Outside of work, Kathy enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, and volunteering at her church. She lives on a hobby farm with her family, where they raise beef cattle and pigs.
