Dr. Jennifer Roberts likes the excitement of
trauma surgery and dealing with critically
injured patients. Marshfield Clinic Health System was one
of the few places that could offer a high
enough volume of such cases without
having to live in a big city.
“My absolute favorite things to do away
from surgery are bow hunting, fishing and
playing sports,” she said. Despite her love
of the great outdoors, she believes trauma
care in rural areas can actually be more
challenging than in a city.
“You have a lot less penetrating and violent
trauma,” she said, “but that doesn’t make
trauma care any less complicated.” In addition to trauma surgery, she performs acute care surgery and surgical critical care.
Dr. Roberts earned her medical degree from the Chicago Medical School, Illinois. She completed her general surgery residency and earned a master’s degree in clinical and
translational research at Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. She then completed a fellowship in surgical critical care at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. She was runner-up in a national trauma paper competition conducted by the American College of Surgeons, Committee on Trauma.
She plans to pursue research in the area
of rural trauma systems.
