To Dr. Javariah Asghar, a meaningful life is one steeped in service, neighborliness and facilitating a better life for individuals, families and the greater community. Service, through medicine, was the essence of that calling.
Dr. Asghar was drawn to complex illness patterns and vascular surgery patients present with a multitude of effects from a single disease.
“As a vascular surgeon, I collaborate with patients and families to help slow down the disease process, improve the health of the individual, and improve and prolong quality of life," she said. “It is astounding and humbling to have tools to diagnose and treat challenging disease patterns through surgery and medicine."
Vascular disease can present as decreased blood flow to arteries throughout the body, resulting in a higher risk of stroke, or development of aneurysms along all major arteries, to critical lack of blood flow to organs and limbs requiring limb- and life-saving measures.
