Neuropsychologist Dr. Jason Kanz treats conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, attention deficit disorder, autism, head trauma and stroke and learning disorders.

He has always been interested in how people think, which led him to study the brain. “The brain is a complex processor that manages more data than modern technologies,” he explains. “It is the ultimate computer that also allows us to feel, experience and move.”

His fascination with psychology led him to Minnesota State University-Mankato, where he earned a master’s degree in community counseling. He later received a doctorate degree from the University of Iowa. While studying there, he spent some time with a neuropsychologist, and quickly realized he had found his career niche. “Prior to shadowing him, I was never fully aware of the role the brain plays in our thinking, emotion and behavior,” he said. “I love working with the brain because it is central to everything we do.”

After completing a fellowship in clinical neuropsychology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Dr. Kanz arrived at Marshfield Clinic Health System in 2006. He has not been disappointed. “Marshfield Clinic has allowed me to do outreach in rural areas of northwest Wisconsin, which is a fulfilling part of my job,” he said. “This organization employs modern technologies and dedicated staff at all levels.”

A native of Oostburg, Wisconsin, Dr. Kanz is a married father of three children. In his free time, he enjoys collecting books, watercolor painting and writing. He has two published books, a book of poetry, “Soil of the Divine” (2017) and “Living in the Larger Story: The Christian Psychology of Larry Crabb” (2019).
