“I feel the most important element in providing care
is ensuring my patient has all the information and support they need to make
health care decisions based on their own individual goals.”
Dr. Hilary Steltenpohl is a central Wisconsin native who realized health care allows her to achieve several goals.
“I wanted to pursue a career where I would be constantly learning more, solving problems and having the opportunity to directly care for people in my community," said Dr. Steltenpohl.
As a family medicine physician, she is the first point of contact for many health care questions and concerns. Dr. Steltenpohl says her approach to patient care is, first and foremost, centered on listening to the patient. From there, she works with patients to plan the best course of action and help them along the journey.
“I am most passionate about patient education, support and whenever possible, emphasizing non-pharmaceutical options to treat medical conditions to keep treatment plans as simple as possible," said Dr. Steltenpohl. “The most enjoyable parts of my job are when my patients and I can celebrate meeting their health care goals and when they share with me their happiest life events since their last visit. It reminds me of why I do this job."
Dr. Steltenpohl grew up in Merrill. She now lives in Wausau with her husband, who is a pediatrician, and son. In her free time, she enjoys playing piano, cooking and trying new restaurants & foods, going for walks with her family, solving puzzles, mindfulness meditation, and all things Harry Potter.
