“I firmly believe everyone should have access to compassionate and empathetic health care, where providers truly listen to their patients."
Dr. Gauri Pethe has always enjoyed working with people and forming long-term relationships.
“Growing up, my grandfather was a doctor and witnessing the compassionate care he provided left a lasting impact on me," she said. “I saw firsthand how his dedication helped provide a much-needed service to his patients."
Dr. Pethe received her medical degree from Smt. Kashibai Navale Medical College in India, followed by an internal medicine residency at Saint Francis Hospital in Illinois, where she also served as chief resident. She completed her fellowship in rheumatology at Prisma Health/University of South Carolina.
She was drawn to the interpersonal aspect and the cerebral and complex nature of rheumatology.
“This field allows me to be part of the recovery process for patients who often present with years of unexplained symptoms. Helping diagnose and treat these conditions is intellectually stimulating and deeply rewarding," she said.
She sees adult patients for the diagnosis and comprehensive management of rheumatologic conditions, joint injections and musculoskeletal ultrasound. This includes care for autoimmune conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, gout, vasculitis, myositis and scleroderma.
She is deeply committed to providing the kind of care that she would appreciate from her own health care providers. Dr. Pethe also firmly believes everyone should have access to compassionate and empathetic health care, where providers truly listen to their patients.
“I hope my patients would say I am not just a doctor, but a trusted partner in their health journey and someone who is there for them through every step of their care," she said.
Dr. Pethe has a deep love for camping, hiking and kayaking and is often accompanied by her goldendoodle. She also is an avid painter and enjoys sketching in nature. She also enjoys cooking and hopes to open her own restaurant.
