Emily Schillinger was drawn by a strong desire to help others and make a positive impact on their lives.
“The dedication of health care professionals during family health challenges inspired me to pursue a similar path," she said. “The field's intellectual demands and constant advancements intrigued me."
Choosing her specialty in hematology-oncology was a combination of personal experiences, academic interests and a deep desire to make a meaningful impact in patients' lives, during one of the most challenging periods of their lives.
“Witnessing the impact of cancer treatment on patients and families and the mentorship from passionate professionals significantly influenced my decision to pursue a subspecialty in oncology and hematology," she said.
She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Doctor of Nursing degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
As a hematology-oncology nurse practitioner, she sees patients for various cancer and hematological ailments. She works in collaboration with physicians, pharmacy and clinical personnel to provide optimal care to the individual diagnosed with cancer and their family. This includes managing adverse effects of chemotherapy, educating patients about their treatment plans and assessing patient's condition and monitoring clinical results.
She shares that the opportunity to form meaningful clinical connections with her patients and tackle complex medical problems is incredibly rewarding.
Her approach to patient care is centered on empathy, compassion and ensuring that patient needs are addressed. She also works to provide individualized care and tailoring treatment plans to each patient's unique needs and preferences.
“I believe in providing holistic care by considering the patient's overall well-being, including their physical, emotional and social aspects," she said.
Outside of her practice, she has many interests and hobbies that keep her engaged and balanced. These include traveling, learning new languages, hiking and spending time with her husband, family and friends.
