Neuropsychologist Dr. Ekaterina Keifer focuses on treating the effects strokes, dementia and brain injuries along with learning disorders in adults.

She fell in love with neuropsychology in graduate school and decided to make the field her life’s work. 

“I’m so interested in how people’s minds work,” she said. “I have a deep interest in how the brain functions.” 

Dr. Keifer works primarily with adults and sees those who have conditions that affect thinking skills, like dementia, brain injuries and stroke. She also works with people who have attention deficit disorder and learning disorders. Her special interest is working with oncology patients who have brain tumors. 

Her approach to patient care is to make sure she shows patients she is interested and invested in helping them get better.

“I just want to do everything I can to help improve patients’ lives,” Dr. Keifer said. 

What Dr. Keifer enjoys most about her work is the opportunity to meet so many patients and listen to their stories. 

“It’s so rewarding to meet people, learn about their lives and to try to find ways to help them,” she said.

Dr. Keifer earned her Ph.D. at the University of Iowa. She completed an internship in neuropsychology at Minneapolis VA Health Care System and a residency in clinical neuropsychology at West Virginia University –School of Medicine. 

When she’s not at work, Dr. Keifer enjoys running, hiking, skiing and being outdoors in general. Reading and crocheting also are among her hobbies. She is married with two children.
