Since high school, Dr. Deepa Soodi has aspired to become a physician. With the support of her family and teachers, she pursued medical school and advanced training, achieving the milestone of specializing in cardiology.
“The idea of easing people's pain, bringing relief, and seeing a smile return to their faces deeply moved me," said Dr. Soodi. “From the beginning, I saw it as a privilege to be in a role where patients place such deep trust in us. That trust carries great responsibility but also brings a strong sense of purpose and personal fulfillment, something few professions can offer."
From medical school, she developed a natural love for cardiology. “As I learned more about heart disease through objective data, I felt increasingly drawn to cardiology because it affects so many people. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S. and worldwide. It's a privilege to be part of a team that helps alleviate patient suffering. I deeply value the opportunity to serve in this field," she said.
Dr. Soodi completed her residency in internal medicine and fellowship in cardiovascular disease through Marshfield Clinic Health System. She is board-certified in internal medicine and has passed the boards in echocardiography and nuclear cardiology.
Dr. Soodi greatly enjoys the opportunity to teach and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows through the center's graduate medical education programs. She shares, “This role is both rewarding and integral to my lifelong learning. I have a deep connection to rural settings and remain committed to serving the community."
She sees patients with a wide range of conditions, such as new-onset chest pain, shortness of breath, syncope, coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, vascular disorders, valvular heart disease, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and arrhythmias. She helps manage these conditions through diagnosis and ongoing care using non-invasive tools such as EKGs, echocardiography, stress testing, and heart monitors.
She also performs comprehensive cardiac risk assessments and focuses on optimizing medical therapy to prevent disease progression and improve cardiac function.
Dr. Soodi takes a holistic approach to care. She listens to her patients and their families with empathy, simplifies complex information, provides clear next steps in care, and helps build their confidence.
“My goal is to prevent disease progression and improve quality of life, ensuring patients feel valued throughout their care," she said.
Dr. Soodi lives with her husband and their son. In her spare time, she cherishes moments with her family, explores new recipes, finds joy in long scenic drives, and enjoys watching movies and cricket.
