Dr. Chris Liakonis grew up seeing illness in his family, and knew he wanted to help ease pain and suffering any way he could.
Dr. Liakonis is a board-certified general and cardiothoracic surgeon seeing patients in Marshfield and Weston. He received his medical degree from Des Moines University in Iowa. He later completed surgical residencies at Mount Clemens General Hospital in Mount Clemens, Michigan and at Oakland General Hospital in Madison Heights, Michigan. He also completed a cardiothoracic surgery residency at Deborah Heart & Lung Center in Brown Mills, New Jersey.
As a cardiothoracic surgeon, he can make an immediate impact on people's lives. He sees ailments of the heart that need surgical intervention, including valve surgery, coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), Maze procedure for atrial fibrillation, aortic aneurysms and video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS).
In his practice, he treats others the way he wants to be treated himself. He remains humble and is not afraid to ask for help or seek another opinion for complicated cases.
“I value communication, one-on-one contact and honesty as a cardiothoracic surgeon," said Dr. Liakonis. “I also make sure I take the time to talk to family members to ensure they are informed of their loved one's care."
He sits down with his patients and explains their care and treatment plans in terms they can understand, so they know exactly what he is doing.
“My patients are trusting me with their life, so I take tremendous responsibility in caring for them," he said.
Dr. Liakonis has twin daughters and is married to his wonderful wife.
