“Providing good health care is based on a partnership with the patient built on trust, compassion and listening.”
As a pulmonary nurse practitioner, Jackie Pfeifer works closely with physicians to treat patients with lung diseases, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma and cancer.
Her interest in patient care began after high school, when she worked as a certified nursing assistant in a nursing home. “I was inspired by a nurse who was particularly kind and caring with the residents,” she said.
After earning her undergraduate nursing and graduate degrees, Jackie worked for Marshfield Clinic Health System as a nurse practitioner in various roles, including in interventional radiology and treating critically-ill trauma patients in general surgery. She then turned her talents to treating patients in pulmonary medicine and critical care.
Jackie takes a holistic, team approach to interacting with patients and their families. “You get better results when people understand their illness, the options and have a vested interested in the outcome,” she said. “My goal is to explain things honestly and clearly and to be available to help the patient move to a better state of health”.
Jackie earned graduate degrees as a clinical nurse specialist at Texas Christian University, Fort Worth and as a nurse practitioner specializing in adult and geriatric health through University of Massachusetts-Boston.
She and her husband, Scott, have two children. She enjoys spending time with her family, working on home-related projects, walking and staying up to date on advances in the nursing and medical profession.
