Dr. Santosh Gowda is an oncologist and hematologist specializing in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cancers and blood diseases like breast cancer, lung cancer and multiple myeloma.
During his time in medical school, Dr. Gowda discovered what it meant to be part of a comprehensive cancer care team. He is fellowship-trained in hematology and medical oncology and knows how important it is to use a holistic approach when working with his patients.
“Cancer not only affects the patient but also the family," said Dr. Gowda. “I want to help in any way possible to alleviate this multidimensional suffering."
Communication and shared decision-making are the top priorities for Dr. Gowda. He works to ensure his patients and their families are part of the entire process. He also emphasizes the importance of education when a patient receives a diagnosis.
“Apart from being a keen listener, I enjoy counseling about the disease, prognosis and treatment options, and taking an evidence-based approach tailored to the needs of individual patients," Dr. Gowda said.
Dr. Gowda earned his medical degree at the Bangalore Medical College in India. He earned his master's in medical science, molecular genetics and microbiology, and completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Additionally he attended the Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center in Milwaukee for his hematology and medical oncology fellowship.
Dr. Gowda is happily married with two children. In his spare time he enjoys yoga, meditation, playing golf, cooking and hiking.
