“I strive to provide excellent, focused care using my expertise leading to a good quality of life for my patients"
Dr. Mayur Chalia, specializes in diagnosing and treating epilepsy, a seizure disorder caused by disturbances in the electrical activity of the brain. His practice includes treating headache disorders.
Dr. Chalia, an adult epileptologist, offers diagnostic and treatment strategies for controlling seizures and headaches using evidenced-based medicine as well as counseling, lifestyle modification and dietary therapies. When medication isn’t working, neurostimulation and surgical techniques are other treatment options. He specializes in the analysis and interpretation of routine and long-term studies under video EEG monitoring which records electrical activity of brain over a time lapse.
He was drawn to this specialty because Dr. Chalia was fascinated with complex neural pathways where numerous essential signals are transmitted and control body movement. "I love the interaction with patients, examining them to find the root of their problem(s), answering their questions and providing patient specific treatment options,” he said.
Dr. Chalia earned his medical degree from the Government Medical College in Patiala, India and completed his residency in adult neurology at Penn State University Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania. He went on to complete two years of fellowship training; one year of clinical neurophysiology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, followed by a year of advanced clinical epilepsy at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
“I have been fortunate to explore a great majority of the United States,” Dr. Chalia said. “One of the top attractions towards Marshfield was the state of the art hospital in a small city complemented by excellent communities and natural beauty which is the best environment to work as a physician and raise my family.”
He and his wife have one son. He enjoys exploring different cuisines, traveling, swimming, and spending time with the family.
