“The care we
provide to mothers
and infants is
fundamental to a
healthy society;
I’m proud to
contribute to this
system of care.”
Dr. Maria Mascola is a maternal and fetal
medicine specialist who treats unique
pregnancy/birth issues such as high-risk
pregnancy, complicated labor/delivery,
prenatal diagnosis, management of birth
defects and a range of maternal medical
problems.
“I was drawn to this field by my
fascination for how the body responds to
pregnancy and my desire to help women
make it through this journey safely,” she said.
The native of suburban Boston joined
Marshfield Clinic Health System in 2003, after practicing
for four years in Boston and three years at
Meriter Hospital, Madison. She considers
communication and education to be an
integral part of her practice.
“Women who
understand the physiologic changes that
pregnancy brings are best able to care for themselves and their babies,” Dr. Mascola said. “I enjoy encouraging them to be at their
very best in terms of healthy lifestyle choices.”
She also has earned several residency teaching awards. “If they’re willing to listen, I’m happy to teach!” she laughed. “They, in turn, can pass along what they’ve learned to others.”
Dr. Mascola is a graduate of Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston. She completed her internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology and her fellowship in maternal and fetal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical
School. She is board-certified in both maternal and fetal medicine and in obstetrics and gynecology.
Dr. Mascola and her husband, Jim Donahue, have three sons. She enjoys taking care of her family, cooking, gardening, hiking, running and travel.
