Since a very young age, Dr. Lucy Martinek has always been interested in how the complex system of the body works. She became a trauma surgeon because she enjoys solving problems and taking care of complex patient illnesses.
Dr. Martinek, who is board-certified in general surgery and surgical critical care, sees a wide range of surgical cases from a simple appendectomy to complicated cases that require emergency surgery.
As a trauma surgeon, she said her goal is to provide the best care possible. She strives to get to know her patients, and be as transparent as possible when working with them. “I want to give
patients options, be honest and flexible to build trust,” she said.
With her work at Marshfield Clinic Health System, she also has the opportunity to work with residents, teaching young surgeons to help them find their passion as well.
Dr. Martinek earned her medical degree from St. George’s University – School of Medicine in Grenada, Maryland. She completed her general surgery residency at Lenox Hill Hospital – Northwell Health in New York City and a fellowship in surgical critical care at Harvard University Medical School – Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts.
When not at work, Dr. Martinek enjoys cooking, gardening and exercising. She likes being active in the outdoors with biking, hiking, camping and downhill skiing.
