“I find the human body's ability to heal fascinating and it is a challenge to find better and faster ways to make that happen.”

Provider Bio down arrow

As a certified wound specialist, Denise McMahan, APNP, provides hyperbaric medicine and wound care.

Patients see McMahan with a wide variety of ailments including venous and arterial insufficiency ulcers, superficial burns, non-healing surgical wounds, trauma wounds and diabetic foot ulcers. She uses therapies such as skin substitutes, debridement, compression, offloading and vacuum-assisted closure of a wound, or wound VAC, to help patients in their healing.

“I have always enjoyed helping others and being a part of the healing process,” McMahan said. “I believe medicine encompasses the entire mind, body and soul and often takes collaboration between multiple providers. I love being a part of that healing team and seeing lives change and improve.”

McMahan says listening to patients is the most important part of her care philosophy, because patients know their bodies best. She works to make sure each patient is aware and involved in their care plan, because if they’re a part of decision-making, they’ll be more invested in their care. McMahan enjoys helping patients understand how the health of the entire body can affect wound healing and discussing the importance of diabetes control, appropriate diet, smoking cessation and good wound care.

McMahan earned her master’s degree in nursing at Chamberlain University in 2019.

She is married with two children, one of whom is in college to become an optometrist. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, canoeing and playing piano.
