“I treat my patients with the
philosophy that a child is a parent’s
most precious gift.”
As a pediatrician, Dr. Amy Herbst takes a preventive approach to your child's health. She provides well-child visits, treats children and adolescents when they are sick and manages chronic or ongoing medical conditions.
Dr. Herbst earned her medical degree at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health (UWSMPH) and completed her residency in pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics, both in Madison. She is board certified in pediatrics. Dr. Herbst also serves as clinical assistant professor of pediatrics at UWSMPH.
She credits her father, a biology teacher, for her early desire to pursue a medical career. He encouraged her interest in the books and videos he used in his classroom. Her love of science and a desire to help others made medicine a natural choice of profession.
Her decision to focus on pediatrics came during medical school, as she rotated among a variety of specialties. “I find it satisfying to work with both children and their parents; together, we can help them to develop good habits and behaviors, and grow up to be successful and healthy,” she said.
This native of Watertown joined Marshfield Clinic in 2000. Since then, Dr. Herbst has treated and established long-term relationships with countless children, from infants to adolescents. In addition to the satisfaction she gains from maintaining and improving children’s health, she identifies one other source of enjoyment: “Children are so open and honest. Every day, I know at least one child is going to make me laugh by saying exactly what’s on his or her mind!”
She and her husband, Todd, have three children. She enjoys outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking and enjoying her family.
