“The strength birthing women possess is amazing to witness. It is an honor to be a part of every birth."

Provider Bio down arrow

As a child, Certified Nurse Midwife Alison Bennett was always drawn to mothers and babies, and naturally found her path to nurse midwifery. While working as a registered nurse in labor and delivery, Alison's passion for supporting women through pregnancy, birth and beyond was strengthened with the birth of her first child.

“I realized the importance of supporting and empowering new mothers and families," she said. “I began teaching childbirth classes, became a doula and eventually became a lactation consultant. After my own family was complete, I attended graduate school for nurse midwifery."

Starting a midwifery practice in the Wausau/Weston area is something Alison has wanted to do for a long time. She said a growing midwifery practice will offer women more support and choices throughout their lives. As a midwife, Alison can provide reproductive care, including family planning and gynecologic exams, as well as pregnancy, birth and postpartum care.

“Being a midwife is a great honor," Alison said. “I am both grateful and aware that I share some of the most important moments in my patients' and their families' lives."

Her practice is focused on patient education and shared decision making, as well as developing a relationship and trust with her patients.

“It is important to me that all persons seeking care are treated with dignity and respect," she said. “As a midwife, I hope to empower parents in their new role and strengthen families through support and education."

Outside of work, Alison's life revolves around her five children. She and her husband have lived in the Wausau area for nearly 20 years. As a family, they enjoy all the outdoor activities the area has to offer. The family loves to stay active with running, hiking, Nordic skiing and paddling. She also enjoys reading and yoga in her free time.
