Research in Greater Dickinson County Communities

  • Area youth have access to educational programs and improved safety practices while working with wild rice harvesting. This work is a result of the National Children’s Center for Rural Agricultural Health and Safety-funded pilot work with the Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission. This demonstrates the lasting impacts of research, that pilot was conducted eight years ago and continues as a program today.
  • Chainsaw safety courses are available to residents, funded by the Upper Midwest Agricultural and Safety and Health Center and provided by the Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission. This initiative is essential to lower income families who rely on wood as fuel source for heating in the winter.
