Treatments
Treatment of ovarian cancer depends on the size and location of the tumor, whether the cancer has spread and the woman's overall health. A woman's age and desire to have children are also considered. A team of specialists will work with you to determine the best treatment plan.
Surgery
An Oophorectomy refers to treatment of cancer by surgery to remove the ovaries, surrounding tissue and organs.
A surgeon may also remove the lymph nodes to determine if the cancer has spread.
If the cancer is confined to one ovary and fallopian tube, it may be possible to remove only the affected areas, leaving the patient with a chance to pursue pregnancy.
These surgeries are most effective when performed by gynecologic oncologists.

Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy uses strong medications to kill cancer cells. This treatment is often used in combination with surgery.
The chemo drugs are used to destroy any cancer remaining after surgery or reduce side-effects. Chemotherapy options include:

Anti-angiogenesis drugs: The formation of new blood vessels feeding tumors is called angiogenesis. Anti-angiogenesis drugs work by cutting off a tumor's blood supply so the tumor starves and is prevented from growing and/or spreading.

Intraperitoneal chemotherapy: Treatment in which chemotherapy drugs are put directly into the abdominal cavity through a thin tube.
