New prescription dispensing service available at Marshfield Clinic Marshfield Center Urgent Care

March 3, 2016

A new prescription dispensing system, InstyMeds, is now available for Marshfield Clinic Marshfield Center's Urgent Care patients who receive prescriptions from an Urgent Care provider.

Only medications most often prescribed by Urgent Care providers will be in the machine. Urgent Care providers will give a code to patients for their prescriptions and information about the medicine. The InstyMeds machine will need the patient's insurance card information and form of payment.

"It's like a bank ATM machine for self-service prescription dispensing," said Sarah Rall, director, Pharmacy Operations.

Medications filled through Instymeds will be covered by Security Health Plan pharmacy coverage. Also, if patients need a prescription not in the InstyMeds machine after hours, Security Health Plan has coverage at all pharmacies in Marshfield for acute needs.

Pharmacy managers say InstyMeds service at Marshfield Clinic's Lakeview Medical Center (LMC) in Rice Lake has been successful.

"We've received positive feedback about how convenient it is for LMC's patients," Rall said. "Both patients and Pharmacy department staff like it."

InstyMeds is not for refill prescriptions. Prescriptions can be refilled at the Clinic's First Floor Pharmacy, 1000 N. Oak Ave., and Central Avenue Pharmacy, 630 South Central Ave.

The Urgent Care Pharmacy has been consolidated with the First Floor Pharmacy. All products and services are available through First Floor Pharmacy and Central Avenue Pharmacy, both of which have expanded its hours to accommodate patients.

First Floor Pharmacy is open 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Central Avenue Pharmacy is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday (walk -up and drive-thru) and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday (drive-thru only).

Patients who used Urgent Care Pharmacy don't have to call to change their pharmacy choice. All Clinic pharmacies have a shared computer file so prescriptions are accessible at any location.

Urgent Care recently expanded its weekend hours to provide more affordable health care options to patients. Weekday hours are 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., weekends 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 8 a.m. to noon on holidays.

The Marshfield Clinic system provides patient care, research and education in more than 50 locations in northern, central and western Wisconsin, making it one of the largest comprehensive medical systems in the United States.
