MINOCQUA – Marshfield Medical Center-Minocqua is now offering blood transfusions in a state-of-the-art area available for patients with cancer and other blood disorders.
"The transfusion of blood and blood products helps save millions of lives every year," said Judi Coppock, manager, Cancer Care & Research at Marshfield Medical Center-Minocqua. "It can help improve life expectancy and the quality of life for patients suffering from life-threatening conditions, and supports complex medical and surgical procedures."
This new area includes private areas for the transfusions with enough space for a guest. Each room is complete with a TV, free Wi-Fi and table that can be used for activities during treatment.
"We are so very pleased to now be able to offer this service to all patients at Marshfield Medical Center-Minocqua," said Dr. Michael Schaars, vice president medical affairs. "Oncology patients will receive blood/blood product services in the new surgery center during the day and, if needed, as an outpatient in the new inpatient unit during other hours. This provides our patients care in the most advanced medical environment in the Northwoods."
After COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, a communal space will be available where patients can interact with other patients and guests during transfusions to help pass the time.
"We look forward to working with the team at Marshfield Medical Center-Minocqua and keeping this care local," Coppock said.
