MINOCQUA – Marshfield Medical Center-Minocqua Obstetrics Department welcomed its first baby, who also was the hospital's first inpatient, at 8 p.m. on opening day, Monday, June 15.
The baby was a boy, named Chaske Dillinger Carufel. The name means "first born son" in the Dakotah Sioux language. He was born to Anna Bryant and Dakotah Carufel from Lac du Flambeau. He has a two-year-old sister at home.
Baby Chaske was not expected until the week of June 21; however, he had his own ideas about when he would enter the world.
"I was glad to have our baby in the new hospital," said Bryant, the baby's mother.
"We were happy to be part of this historic event," said Dr. John Twelmeyer, Marshfield Clinic Minocqua Center, who delivered this first baby in the new hospital.
Marshfield Medical Center-Minocqua Obstetrics is expecting 19 babies to be born by the Independence Day holiday. To date, they have welcomed five newborns in the new birthing suites. They anticipate 300 deliveries per year.
This addition to the Minocqua Center building is equipped with:
- Private patient rooms and flexible overflow rooms.
- Surgery center with operating rooms and procedure rooms.
- Birthing center with private rooms for labor and delivery, and dedicated C-section room for planned or urgent deliveries.
- 24-hour emergency services.
- Inpatient physical and occupational therapy.
- Imaging and lab space, pharmacy and more.
