Marshfield Clinic this baseball season will
serve as the exclusive athletic training provider for the Eau Claire Express.
Dr. Todd Schubkegel, an orthopedic surgeon based at Marshfield Clinic Eau Claire Center, will serve as team physician. The Clinic will have athletic trainers present at all Express home and away games. In addition, Clinic staff will be on site for the Northwoods All-Star game at Carson Park in Eau Claire.
Clinic athletic trainers Zach Furtak and Jeff Banks are the primary staff assigned to the Express. Athletic trainers Luke Howard and Brent Amble will provide support. The four trainers are based in Eau Claire.
"Marshfield Clinic is excited to have our professional athletic trainers on site to ensure the safety of Express players during the 2013 season," said James Nesbitt, Marshfield Clinic manager who oversees athletic training. "We hope it's the beginning of a long relationship with the Express organization."
Eau Claire Express manager Dale Varsho said he's excited for Marshfield Clinic to provide athletic training needs for his team.
"Marshfield Clinic's reputation and knowledge of the athletic-training field is something that's sure to assist our players in reaching their full potential, and developing toward professional careers," he said.
Marshfield Clinic also provides athletic training services for the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters and Wisconsin Woodchucks, teams that also compete in the Northwoods League. The Express season opener is May 29.
The Marshfield Clinic system provides patient care, research and education in more than 50 locations in northern, central and western Wisconsin, making it one of the largest comprehensive medical systems in the United States.
