IRON MOUNTAIN, MI – Marshfield Clinic Region of Sanford Health is creating a new interfacility ambulance base at Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson aimed at enhancing access to advanced medical care for patients.
This initiative transforms a former maintenance garage into a fully equipped ambulance base supporting two ambulances operating 24 hours a day. Each unit will be staffed by highly trained EMTs, critical care paramedics and nurses, delivering care at the highest recognized clinical level for ground transport.
“Our goal is to ensure continuity of high-level care during patient transfers," said Amanda Shelast, president of Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson. “These transport teams will function as an extension of hospital care, maintaining critical care standards enroute to other hospitals that can provide patients highly specialized medical care."
Hiring for additional staff is underway and the new base is expected to be operational by the end of the year. Marshfield Clinic is actively partnering with Integrity Care and other local EMS providers to strengthen emergency medical services throughout the Iron Mountain area.
Shelast said the launch of the interfacility ambulance base at MMC-Dickinson represents a major step forward in elevating the level of care available to our patients,
“By integrating advanced transport capabilities with our clinical teams, we're ensuring that patients receive seamless, high-quality care from the moment they leave our facility to the moment they arrive at a higher level of care," Shelast said. “This is a win for our community and a testament to our commitment to continuous improvement."
