Marshfield Medical Center-Rice Lake Home Health and Hospice

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Marshfield Medical Center-Rice Lake offers Home health care and hospice services to people living in the Barron, Washburn, Sawyer, Burnett, Polk, Dunn and Rusk Counties.

These services are provided by a team of professionals and trained volunteers and are available seven days a week​.​

What is hospice care and what services are offered?

Hospice is a patient-centered, family-oriented approach to care for anyone with a life-limiting illness. The core belief of hospice is that each of us has the right to die pain-free and with dignity. Our focus is on caring, not curing.

Hospice care services offered for patients and family members include:

  • Pain & Symptom Management
  • Home Health Aide Services
  • Social Work Services
  • Spiritual Support
  • Respite Care
  • Bereavement Support
  • Volunteer Services
  • Massage Therapy

What is home health care and what services are offered?

Home health care provides patients with skilled health care in the comfort of their home.

Nurses, physicians, therapists, social workers, dietitians and home health aides provide the services patients need, allowing them to stay living independently and saving them frequent and often inconvenient trips to medical facilities.

Our Home Health Care services are available seven days a week and we offer individualized care to meet our patients' individual needs.

Home health care can:

  • Shorten or even eliminate hospital or nursing home stays.
  • Save on time and inconvenience of frequent travel to medical facilities.
  • Save money on medical costs.
  • Allow patients to remain living independently.
  • Help manage individual health needs.

Each home health care patient has unique needs and often combinations of the following services are used to meet those needs:

  • Skilled nursing care
  • Physical therapy
  • Speech therapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Respiratory therapy
  • IV therapy
  • Wound & Ostomy Care
  • Medical Social Work Services
  • Diet and Nutrition Consultation
  • Personal Care Services

Who provides hospice and home health care services?

The hospice team includes the following who are specially trained to understand and help the patient and their loved ones:

  • The patient's doctor.
  • Hospice medical director.
  • Registered nurses.
  • Social workers.
  • Home care aides.
  • Hospice chaplain.
  • Volunteer coordinator.
  • Bereavement coordinator.
  • Trained volunteers.

A variety of specialists work together to offer a broad range of home health services. This includes:

  • Skilled nursing.
  • Certified nursing assistant.
  • Physical therapy.
  • Occupational therapy.
  • Speech therapy.
  • Medical social services.

What is our Lifeline program?

Lifeline is a personal response system that allows independence, security and peace of mind. Should you ever need help, Lifeline is a link to skilled personnel who, even if you can't make voice contact, will send neighbors, relatives, or medical assistance.

Lifeline could be a lifesaver for the following people:

  • People with chronic medical problems
  • Post-operative patients
  • Active seniors who live alone

Our Lifeline program gives you options such as:

  • HomeSafe: No landline needed; pendant or wristband option; in-home communicator; Auto Alert Service (added feature) that automatically detects falls in and around the home.
  • GoSafe: Pendant with Auto Alert; six-locations technology; two-way communication.

How can you get started with these services?

Hospice caring starts as soon as we receive a referral. Referrals are accepted from doctors, family, clergy, friends or concerned loved ones. People living in Barron, Rusk, Washburn, Dunn, Sawyer, Burnett and Polk counties are eligible for Marshfield Medical Center-Rice Lake’s Hospice Care.

Physicians, hospital social workers, discharge planners or nurses may refer patients to Home Health Care. Patients may also refer themselves or be referred by friends or family. Persons living in Barron, Washburn, Sawyer, Burnett, Polk, Dunn and Rusk Counties and under the care of a physician are eligible for Home Health Care.
