For 13 years, The Sports Den and Marshfield Clinic Health system teamed in the battle against breast cancer.
Denny and Joan Riedel, owners of the Sports Den, gave of their time and passion to make BCARR a success with year the event proceeds benefiting Breast Cancer Research & Detection at Marshfield Clinic Health System. To date over $230,000 has been raised for breast cancer research and detection through this event, thanks to our amazing community. But sadly, Denny and Joan are ready to sport some new shoes as they look forward to retirement.
But the fight for support must go on! Breast cancer is still the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women. With more than 200,000 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed each year, events that support research and early detection are crucial to fight against this disease.
Thanks to all your support, MCHS has been able to keep our Mobile Mammography Units on the road, helping more women to get access to screenings.
- Mobile Mammography units can travel to virtually any remote location –parking lots, public health events, or even farm fields – offering access, immediacy, convenience, flexibility, and digital imaging quality.
Since 2013, the mobile mammography team has performed over 28,000 exams and over 5,000 bone density scans, logging a combined total of over 530,000 miles. In 2017 alone, over 5,700 mobile mammography screens were performed.
Many reported they would not have gotten screened had it not been for the convenience of the mobile unit.
During the same time period, 170 women were diagnosed with cancer through the mobile mammography service. - We also have established an angel fund that helps to provide financial assistance to those patients who are unable to pay for these much needed mammograms.
- Early detection is the key to beating this disease.
