Video: Get more core into your workout (Part 1)

Looking to get more core but unsure where to start? We have you covered.

This video series shares various exercise tips for building and strengthening your middle.

Why core matters

Your body’s everyday motions are created by the ripple effect of muscles connecting your upper and lower body. These motions originate in your core muscles, located deep within your trunk. Core muscles extend from the base of your head to your pelvis.

Strong and stable core muscles help coordinate movement to your arms, legs and spine. These muscles reduce your chance for injuries and contribute to better balance, coordination and posture.

Core muscle activation should be prominent in your workouts. Don’t skimp on this muscle group just because your focus is on building muscles in certain areas like the chest and arms.

Check out video No.1, in which a Marshfield Clinic physical therapist shows six beginner-level core muscle exercises you can do at home or work.
