We specialize in conditions involving your sinuses, thyroid and parathyroid glands, disorders of the upper airway and tumors in the head and neck area.  Our specialists are fully trained in the management and specialized care of a wide range of disorders in each of these areas:

Upper Airway and Digestive Tract Disorders

The head and neck area is one of the most complex areas of your body. Located in this relatively small area are various structures critical to survival. Various conditions and disorders can significantly affect your ability to breathe, eat and nourish your body.

Our team of physicians has knowledge and expertise to treat:

  • Airway narrowing or stenosis
  • Infections of the upper airway
  • Tumors involving the upper airway
  • Foreign body removal in the upper airway or digestive tract
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Aspiration problems

Allergies can play a role in how we treat various diseases. As otolaryngologists, we are uniquely qualified to deal with diseases of the upper airways, including allergic reactions. We provide continuity of care in medical and surgical treatment of head and neck diseases.

It may be helping your infant daughter hear voices and the world around her so she may learn to speak. It could be helping your parents enjoy the laughter of their grandchildren. Or you may be searching for solutions to protect hearing and prevent hearing loss. No matter what the need, Marshfield Clinic’s Department of Audiology works with people of all ages and with all types of hearing issues.

Audiologists conduct hearing evaluations and help patients and families develop solutions to any communication problems created by hearing deficits.  They frequently work with educators, physicians and other providers as well as families.  Audiologists may fit hearing aids or other devices, provide counseling and assist in rehabilitation and follow-up care. They also often recommend and fit customized hearing protection.

Head and Neck Tumors and Malignancies

Head and neck cancers can be among the most debilitating and devastating conditions you and your family may ever face. A cancer diagnosis often carries the fear of disfigurement, disability and pain.  By keeping up with the latest advances in medicine, and applying our vast experience in treating these conditions, we can offer the hope of a successful treatment. We use various treatment modalities for tumor removal, reconstruction, radiation therapy and chemotherapy. We encourage you to seek early consultation and treatment if you have any concerns about having head or neck cancer. Success in treating these conditions often is enhanced by early diagnosis and treatment.

If you are undergoing treatment for head and neck cancer, we strongly encourage you to discontinue using tobacco products such as cigarettes, chewing tobacco, or cigars. We also strongly discourage consumption of alcohol.  The combination of cigarettes and alcohol can significantly impact the success of your treatment and may also have an effect on whether the cancer returns.

We can also help and encourage you to discontinue the use of these products.

Sleep Apnea, Snoring and Other Sleep Disorders

Sleep is one of the most basic human needs. Most people need seven to eight hours of sleep each day to be refreshed and rested.  Sleep apnea, snoring and other sleep disorders disrupt your normal sleep pattern, making you generally feel tired. However, sleep disorders also cause physiological changes that can affect your mood, heart and blood pressure. Over time, those changes can significantly and adversely affect your health and safety.

Marshfield Clinic Ear Nose and Throat specialists were among the first physician groups in Wisconsin to provide integrated services to manage snoring and sleep apnea.

Together with our colleagues in Neurology, Pulmonary Medicine, and Oral Surgery, Marshfield Clinic Ear Nose and Throat has been at the forefront in treating some of the more difficult cases of sleep apnea. We provide a coordinated approach that is often required to effectively manage this sleep disorder.

We offer the following Sleep apnea and snoring services:

  • Sleep evaluations, sometimes involving multiple health disciplines
  • CPAP masks
  • Laser surgery
  • Radiofrequency ablation of abnormal tissue

We work with you to form a treatment plan to suit your condition, lifestyle and personal needs.
