The Marshfield Clinic Cancer Care Survivorship Program offers the UWEC Cancer Recovery and Fitness Program in collaboration with the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (UWEC).
Patients who have gone through surgery, radiation or chemotherapy to treat their cancer may experience changes in mobility, balance, strength or energy level. The Cancer Fitness Program, developed by Professor Matt Wiggins, Chair of the Department of Kinesiology at UWEC, can help patients with these changes. Dr. Wiggins has been involved with exercise and cancer research for the past five years. He specializes in exercise psychology, and his main research interest is in the area of quality of life improvements with cancer survivors.
The program begins with a fitness evaluation and the exercise prescription is tailored to the individual’s abilities and needs. An oncologist’s referral and clearance from patient’s primary physician are required.
Where: University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire McPhee Center
When: Fall, winter, spring and summer semesters.
