Project Shine benefits patients, engages employees

Project Shine, Marshfield Clinic's employee giving appeal, has already raised more than $225,000 as of November, 2013, beating last year's record year by $25,000.

For this year's campaign, the Project Shine Committee chose a theme of "Finding our Treasures," which inspired fun activities in regional centers and various departments.  Activities included a system-wide treasure hunt, staff pirate photos, and team fundraising challenges.

 "Over the last two years, we've been rebranding the employee giving initiatives to create more awareness among our employees and get more people involved," said Rikki Starich, annual giving officer. "In 2013, the new branding and fun theme clearly worked. Of the more than 700 participants, 200 were first-time Project Shine donors."

In addition to new donors, many employees increased their gifts this year. The Hour Club, which recognizes donors who commit to giving one hour of their wage per pay period to support the Clinic's mission, now has 80 members.  Of those, 32 are new in 2013.

Employees had the option to give to any other area of the Clinic that was meaningful to them, including one of the five highlighted funds chosen based on Clinic priorities. Employee gifts are now being used to:

  • Provide patients and families financial support and comfort beyond traditional medical needs;
  • Support patient care needs in each of our cancer care centers system-wide;
  • Enhance patient comfort, education and treatment for children seen in our pediatric department;
  • Support research initiatives that have the potential to be transformative in nature;
  • Fund employee-driven projects that directly improve the quality of care for our patients.

Through their gifts employees are changing patients' lives, advancing medical research, and improving communities system-wide.  "We are inspired by the generosity of our employees every day," Starich said.  "Their support goes a long way toward supporting our mission."
