“It’s very gratifying when I can work closely with families for the good of their child.”

Provider Bio down arrow

As a pediatric neurologist, Dr. Monica Koehn sees primarily children with epilepsy, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, neurodegenerative disorders and other conditions.

Dr. Koehn (pronounced cane) has always enjoyed children, especially those with special needs, and wanted to be a neurologist since grade school.

“I think the most important part of my practice is to work with families, combining my education and experience with their love and knowledge of their child,” she said. “We work together to come up with a management strategy that will improve the quality of life of the child.”

Dr. Koehn earned her medical degree from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine & Health Sciences in Grand Forks. She completed her residency in neurology and child/adolescent neurology at Mayo Clinic and completed a fellowship in pediatric clinical neurophysiology/epilepsy at Miami Children’s Hospital in Florida. Marshfield Clinic was a perfect match for her because she wanted an excellent, tertiary multispecialty clinic that could allow her to focus on her specialty, in a place with a children’s hospital in a small community in the upper Midwest.

She and her husband have five children. She loves chocolate and enjoys doing outdoor activities, running, swimming, playing the piano, Bach organ music, volunteering for programs her children are involved in, and participating in medical mission trips to Central America.
