“It’s gratifying to help children overcome
serious illness and then follow their lives
through college and beyond.”
Dr. Michael McManus joined Marshfield
Clinic in 2002, bringing an extensive
background in pediatric oncology from
his previous training, research and practice
at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota;
The Scripps Research Institute in La
Jolla, California; and Children’s Hospital
in San Diego, California.
“There are very good treatments for
children with cancer,” Dr. McManus
noted. “It’s very rewarding to collaborate
with our medical team to treat patients
with complex conditions and restore
them to health.”
He enjoys working with children who
range in age from infants to young adult.
“They have a high regard for good health
and are real fighters,” he said.
His practice embraces his patients’ families. “It’s an emotional time, and you draw close to parents,” he observed.
“We become a close-knit team, all pursuing the goal of improving their children’s health.”
Dr. McManus earned his medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. He served his internship and residency in pediatrics at the University of Massachusetts Medical
School-Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. He completed fellowships in
pediatric hematology/oncology and in
tumor biology at Mayo Clinic-Mayo School
of Health Sciences in Rochester, Minnesota.
He is board-certified in pediatrics and
Dr. McManus and his wife, Dr. Mary Hennessy, have two sons. He enjoys baseball, trips to Maine, and following
his children through their education
