As an internist, Dr. J.F. Herbert Macalalad works with adult patients across many areas of their health. “I’m a doctor for adults,” he explains, “much like a pediatrician is a doctor for kids.” He stresses appropriate lifestyle modifications. He emphasizes preventive care, making sure patients are up-to-date with recommended vaccinations and screening tests including mammogram, pap smears, and colonoscopies. He manages a wide variety of adult illnesses including heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. Dr. Macalalad is also the medical director for the HMR Weight Management Program at Marshfield Clinic Health System in the eastern division.
Dr. Macalalad is a biker and tennis player. He dabbles with snow shoeing during the winter.
Dr. Macalalad completed medical school at Manila Central University in the Philippines, and residencies in family practice at the Subic Bay Naval Base U.S. Naval Hospital in the Philippines, and in internal medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine at the District of Columbia General Hospital. He is board-certified in internal medicine.
